President's Message

Dear Reader,

Welcome to the first edition of OSS E-Patrika!

The brainchild of our Literature, Media and Web (LMW) Chapter, we are proud to bring to you our thoughts and stories on a regular basis, providing a channel for all members to share their words, pictures and even some cooking secrets. Thanks to the hard work and support of the entire team and all valued contributors, we are proud to kickstart our journey covering our beloved Ganesh Puja.

I have personally been associated with the Ganesh Puja event right from the very start, and would like to share some of my experience and thoughts.

Odia Society of Singapore has been celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi in Singapore for over a decade now. During Puja time comes, we see a lot of enthusiasm in people as they volunteer for the Puja activities; be it in preparing and supplying the bhogas for all devotees or providing financial support thru donations. The entire program looks a little challenging in the beginning, but runs so smooth, it feels as though someone is controlling the event using a remote control.

Since last year, the Cultural Team has taken the program to new heights by organising a Bhajan Sandhya on the same day evening and seeing a lot of positive involvement and feedback from the members.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for the participation, the donors for their kind donations, our sponsors (Joyalukkas and Malabar), Shree Lakshminarayan Temple for allowing us to use the venue, our guests from Odisha in Bhajan Sandhya and the Cultural Chapter Members & volunteers from OSS who planned and executed the program successfully.

We hope you enjoy the stories, secrets and moments captured in the E-Patrika, and look forward to the continued support from our members.

On behalf of the OSS committee, a big thank you to all.

Yours,
Alok Panda

Bhajan Sandhya

Ganesh Puja Evening Virtual ZOOM Event

On the auspicious occasion of Ganesh Puja, OSS Cultural Committee also organized a musical BHAJAN SANDHYA program for its members in the evening. This was a virtual ZOOM event featuring live performance by renowned Bhajan singer of Odisha – Mrs. Anusuya Nath, who has achieved widespread fame for iconic Bhajans like "Dhanamali" and several other leading artists from Odisha.

OSS President Mr. Alok Panda gave the opening address welcoming all the OSS members and the performing artists.

The Bhajan Sandhya started with a beautiful Ganesh Vandana and several melodious Bhajans performed by the talented children and youth of Adruta Children's Home, Bhubaneswar – Sefalika Anand, Suryananda, Amrita, and Bipin Chandra Naik. Adruta Children's Home is an award winning Not for Profit Child Care and Educational institution in Odisha supporting underprivileged children through holistic education and personal development programmes.

The evening also saw popular Bhajans being performed by "Biswashanti Bhajan Group" - comprising of leading Tabla exponent Jagabandhu Muduli and celebrated Bhajan Singers – Sudhansu Sekhar and Purnachandra Sahu.

Over 50 OSS families joined the online Bhajan Sandhya over ZOOM and enjoyed the programme in the comfort of their homes, with the LIVE streaming of the performance from Signature 113 Studio in Bhubaneswar where the artists were performing. High quality Audio-Visual streaming ensured a smooth and pleasant audience experience.

The 3-hour program concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Mr. Alok Panda and felicitation of the artists and Adruta Kids.

The success of the event was made possible by the active support and participation of all the OSS members, with special appreciation for OSS Cultural Committee members - Mr. Subrat Nayak and Ms. Sasmita Pal who actively helped in the overall planning and artist coordination.

The program was compeered by OSS Anchors - Mr. Pratyush Hota and Mr. Lagnajit Patnaik.
